Darakaraka Series: Find Your Spouse Planet and Read Its Traits
Find your Darakaraka with a worked seven-planet example, then explore detailed spouse profiles for every planet, all signs and houses, and Navamsa context.
What kind of person might I marry? In Jaimini-style astrology, Darakaraka—often shortened to DK—is a movable spouse and partnership significator, assigned by comparing planetary degrees.
This series gives you detailed planet-by-planet profiles rather than a one-line answer. It explores temperament, affection, communication, conflict, work and family life, then adds sign, house and Navamsa context. These are traditional symbols and original interpretive examples, not scientifically established predictions of another person's characteristics.
How to find your Darakaraka#
Celestial Digits uses a seven-planet system: Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus and Saturn. Compare each planet's degree within its sign, from 0° up to just under 30°. The lowest-ranked planet becomes DK.
Do not compare their total longitudes from 0° to 360°. Do not choose the planet in the lowest-numbered house. Retrograde Mercury, Mars, Jupiter, Venus or Saturn is not measured backward for this ranking.
Open your Vedic Birth Chart, then Secrets → Darakaraka under Marriage & Relationships. The result includes the planet, its sign, house and the degree ranking. The Jaimini section also provides the chara-karaka roles.
A worked example from our chart engine#
These are the seven eligible planets from our synthetic Chart Lab example: 1 January 2000, 12:00, Bengaluru, UTC+05:30, Lahiri ayanamsa. It is not a customer's birth record.
| Planet | Sign | Degree within the sign |
|---|---|---|
| Sun | Sagittarius | 16.2782° |
| Moon | Libra | 16.7078° |
| Mars | Aquarius | 3.9285° |
| Mercury | Sagittarius | 7.6757° |
| Jupiter | Aries | 1.3867° |
| Venus | Scorpio | 7.4317° |
| Saturn | Aries | 16.5432° |
Jupiter is the Darakaraka because 1.3867° is the lowest eligible degree. Aries being sign one is irrelevant to that comparison. Mars in Aquarius still ranks below a planet at 7° in another sign.
The observations and backend-generated charts are documented in our five-minute calculation experiment. This example establishes a ranking; it does not establish the personality of a real spouse.
Seven planets or eight? What about Rahu?#
There are seven- and eight-karaka conventions in Jaimini interpretation. Some eight-planet methods include Rahu using a reversed degree measure. Ketu is generally excluded from these schemes. You must state the convention before comparing two calculators.
The Jaimini Sutras translation, chapter 1, section 1 discusses seven/eight-planet formulations and the spouse significator. Its commentary also cautions against judging from karakas alone. This is a historical reference for the tradition, not evidence that spouse predictions are validated.
Our app currently uses seven eligible planets, so this series has seven planet profiles. Rahu or Ketu cannot be the app's DK. A report using another convention may legitimately assign a different role; do not mix its result with ours without naming the difference.
Close degrees, ties and uncertain birth times#
Compare minutes and seconds rather than whole degrees. A displayed 3° can hide a meaningful difference between 3°02′ and 3°48′.
The app's present ranking rounds degrees to four decimal places before sorting. An exceptionally close pair can therefore tie at that precision; the implementation does not resolve such a tie through a comprehensive traditional tie-breaking analysis. Do not turn that edge-case output into a confident spouse portrait.
If birth time is uncertain, examine whether the eligible planets' order changes over the plausible interval. The Moon is particularly worth checking. DK may remain the same while the ascendant, house placement or D9 changes. The birth-time uncertainty guide explains how to distinguish those layers.
Choose your planet profile#
| Your Darakaraka | Main themes explored | Detailed guide |
|---|---|---|
| Sun | Identity, respect, pride, responsibility | Sun DK spouse characteristics |
| Moon | Care, emotional responsiveness, belonging | Moon DK spouse characteristics |
| Mars | Initiative, independence, desire, disagreement | Mars DK spouse characteristics |
| Mercury | Conversation, curiosity, humour, flexibility | Mercury DK spouse characteristics |
| Jupiter | Values, encouragement, meaning, expectations | Jupiter DK spouse characteristics |
| Venus | Affection, reciprocity, pleasure, negotiation | Venus DK spouse characteristics |
| Saturn | Consistency, patience, duty, emotional reserve | Saturn DK spouse characteristics |

Every profile separates constructive expressions from possible tensions. Neither is a prediction of good or bad character. The examples use gender-neutral language because this degree-ranking method does not require gender-based personality rules.
Add the context that one planet leaves out#
Continue in this order:
- Darakaraka through all 12 signs: the style through which a planet's symbolism is interpreted.
- Darakaraka through all 12 houses: the area of your chart where the partnership theme is placed.
- Darakaraka in Navamsa: follow the natal DK into D9 without assigning a new one.
- Darakaraka versus the seventh house: compare different indicators without letting one erase the other.
A hypothetical Saturn DK in Libra in the fourth house, for example, combines responsibility, reciprocity and the home as an interpretive topic. It is more specific than “older, serious spouse,” but it still cannot identify an actual person.
What a Darakaraka cannot promise#
DK alone cannot reliably establish a spouse's exact appearance, age, profession, wealth, faith, loyalty, health or marriage date. It does not certify compatibility, guarantee marriage or reveal a person's worth.
The lowest degree is a ranking, not proof of a weak planet, an immature spouse or a spiritual event. A below-1° reading in the app is an interpretive claim, not something the degree calculation can validate.
Use the series to ask better questions about partnership. Do not reject a respectful person—or excuse harmful conduct—because an archetype seemed to promise something else.
Discuss: Which planet is your DK, and which topic would you most like to understand: affection, communication, conflict or the additional chart layers? You can share the planet name without private birth details.
