Jupiter in Cancer 2026–2027: Dates and All 12 Ascendants
Jupiter in Cancer from June 2, 2026: verified dates, the 2027 return and detailed guides for all 12 ascendants, with lordships and aspects.
Jupiter entered sidereal Cancer on June 2, 2026, using Indian Standard Time. In Jyotish, Cancer is Jupiter's exaltation sign. That makes this an important transit to examine, but “exalted Jupiter” does not mean the same event, or even the same kind of opportunity, for everyone.
For one ascendant, Cancer is the house of partnership. For another, it is the house of expenses. Jupiter also rules different houses in each chart. Those differences deserve more attention than a blanket promise of good fortune.
This is the opening guide in Transit Fieldnotes, our series connecting verified planetary movement with clearly explained traditional interpretations. Start with the dates here, then choose your ascendant for a detailed reading of Jupiter's house placement, lordships, aspects, career and relationship themes.
All 12 ascendant guides are available. These readings use your sidereal rising sign, not your Moon or Sun sign. Each guide follows the same astronomical timeline while explaining a different chart structure.
Reading this on October 13, 2026: Jupiter is still in Cancer. Its next sign change is October 31. The return in January 2027 is a separate stay, not a continuation of an uninterrupted year in Cancer.
Jupiter in Cancer dates for 2026 and 2027#
All dates below are civil calendar dates in IST, UTC+05:30. A reader in another timezone can see a different date for the same astronomical event.
| Date in India | What happens | How to read the timeline |
|---|---|---|
| June 2, 2026 | Jupiter enters Cancer from Gemini, moving direct | The 2026 Cancer stay begins |
| October 31, 2026 | Jupiter enters Leo | The Cancer reading pauses at this ingress |
| December 13, 2026 | Jupiter stations retrograde in Leo | Retrograde begins outside Cancer |
| January 25, 2027 | Retrograde Jupiter returns to Cancer | A second Cancer stay begins |
| April 13, 2027 | Jupiter stations direct in Cancer | Forward motion resumes within the same sign |
| June 26, 2027 | Jupiter enters Leo again | The second Cancer stay ends |
The two Cancer intervals are therefore June 2–October 31, 2026, and January 25–June 26, 2027, up to the ingress instant on each ending date. They are not whole-day guarantees that Jupiter remains in Cancer on the exit date.
We checked these calendar dates with our existing transit calculator and the 2026 and 2027 Drik Panchang ingress calendars, alongside its 2026 and 2027 station calendars. Set the location to India when comparing those pages. The sources agree on these IST dates; their minute-level times differ, so we are not presenting one exact clock time as independently settled.
Was June 2026 Jupiter's first visit to Cancer in this cycle?#
No. There was a brief Cancer visit in late 2025 before Jupiter returned to Gemini. June 2, 2026 is the start of the Cancer stay discussed here, not evidence that Jupiter had been absent from Cancer for twelve uninterrupted years. Retrograde loops make slogans such as “the first time in twelve years” easy to misuse.
What exaltation means here#
Within traditional astrology, exaltation is a kind of planetary dignity: a sign placement considered especially supportive of a planet's expression. Jupiter is associated with learning, counsel, judgement, growth and generosity. Cancer, ruled by the Moon, brings the symbolism of care, belonging and protection into that discussion.
Our interpretation of their combination is growth that needs a place to take root. That might mean a learning community, a more sustainable home, a supportive partnership or a better use of resources. Which of those themes deserves emphasis depends on the chart.
Cancer is not Jupiter's own sign; Sagittarius and Pisces are. Nor does Jupiter's exaltation make every Cancer placement automatically beneficial in every context. The classical point of deepest exaltation is 5° Cancer, rather than every degree having identical status. The exaltation sign and degree assignments appear in Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra 3.49–50.
This distinction matters for the return. Our calculation places the April 2027 direct station near 22°45′ Cancer. Jupiter's second Cancer stay does not travel back through 5°. The sign-level dignity remains, but the two visits cover different parts of Cancer.
Cancer contains more than one nakshatra#
Cancer begins in the final pada of Punarvasu, continues through Pushya, and ends in Ashlesha. These labels describe different layers of the same longitude.
| Part of Cancer | Nakshatra | Nakshatra lord |
|---|---|---|
| 0° to before 3°20′ | Punarvasu, pada 4 | Jupiter |
| 3°20′ to before 16°40′ | Pushya | Saturn |
| 16°40′ to before 30° | Ashlesha | Mercury |
The sign lord is the Moon throughout all three sections. Jupiter is the moving planet. The nakshatra lord changes with its longitude. Those roles must not be swapped in an interpretation.
The first 2026 stay moves through all three sections. The 2027 return remains within Ashlesha because Jupiter turns direct before moving back as far as Pushya. A generic statement that the return is another “Jupiter in Pushya” period would therefore be wrong.
We use this layer to make the reading more specific, not to claim a nakshatra alone identifies a person's future. For the terminology, read nakshatra lord, sign lord and deity.
Find Cancer in your ascendant chart#
For the ascendant interpretation, this series uses sidereal signs, whole-sign houses and Parashari planetary aspects. Under that framework, knowing the rising sign determines the sign of each house and Jupiter's lordships. It does not reveal the positions of the other natal planets.
| Ascendant | Cancer is your | Jupiter rules your | Main area to examine |
|---|---|---|---|
| Aries ascendant | 4th house | 9th and 12th | Home, education and belonging; links with travel or expenditure |
| Taurus ascendant | 3rd house | 8th and 11th | Skills, communication and networks; growth requiring personal effort |
| Gemini ascendant | 2nd house | 7th and 10th | Income, family and speech; connections with partnerships and work |
| Cancer ascendant | 1st house | 6th and 9th | Direction and learning; balancing growth with everyday responsibilities |
| Leo ascendant | 12th house | 5th and 8th | Retreat, expenses and private study; a need for clear financial boundaries |
| Virgo ascendant | 11th house | 4th and 7th | Networks and gains; links with home, clients and partnership |
| Libra ascendant | 10th house | 3rd and 6th | Work and visibility; skills, service and workload |
| Scorpio ascendant | 9th house | 2nd and 5th | Higher learning and mentors; connections with family and creative effort |
| Sagittarius ascendant | 8th house | 1st and 4th | Shared resources, research and change; questions of security |
| Capricorn ascendant | 7th house | 3rd and 12th | Agreements and partnership; communication and the cost of commitments |
| Aquarius ascendant | 6th house | 2nd and 11th | Work routines and obligations; how earnings relate to service or debt |
| Pisces ascendant | 5th house | 1st and 10th | Study, creativity and children; links with personal and professional direction |
These are starting themes, not twelve complete predictions. For example, Jupiter in the second for Gemini rising connects to its seventh- and tenth-house rulership. The reasoning is more specific than “second house means money”: it asks whether work, clients or agreements are involved in an income question.
For Virgo rising, the same transit occupies the eleventh and carries fourth- and seventh-house responsibilities. A reading should therefore examine home and partnership connections rather than borrowing the Gemini explanation.
Why this series uses the ascendant#
Knowing your ascendant fixes the signs of the houses in this whole-sign framework, so we can explain both where Jupiter is transiting and which natal houses it rules. It does not give us your full chart placements: we still need the actual natal positions and planetary periods for personal timing.
Moon-based gochara is a separate traditional method. We are not applying its favourable-house lists or obstruction rules to these ascendant readings. If you only know your Moon sign, first find your rising sign in your birth chart.
Where Jupiter casts its aspects from Cancer#
In the Parashari sign-level framework used here, Jupiter aspects the fifth, seventh and ninth positions from itself. From Cancer, those signs are Scorpio, Capricorn and Pisces. The aspect rule is described in Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra's planetary-aspect chapter.
Which natal houses those signs occupy depends on the ascendant. For Virgo rising they are the third, fifth and seventh houses. For Aries rising they are the eighth, tenth and twelfth. The transit's reach is consequently different even though Jupiter is in Cancer for both people.
These are sign-level relationships. An exact aspect to a natal planet requires its degree and a stated method for evaluating angular strength. We do not invent an exact contact or a personal event date from a rising sign alone.
What a sign guide cannot know about your chart#
A useful transit reading needs room for the information that is missing:
- Natal Jupiter: its house, sign, conjunctions and condition give the personal background.
- The natal Moon: Cancer's ruler has a different placement and condition in each chart.
- Dasha and antardasha: the current planetary periods may emphasise different houses and events.
- The subject of the question: a marriage reading needs seventh-house context; a career reading needs work-related context. One transit cannot replace either.
- Ashtakavarga: Jupiter's individual bindus in Cancer and broader sign support are personal calculations. They cannot be guessed from the ascendant.
- Other transits and exact degrees: concurrent pressures or support can change the reading as the months pass.
Divisional charts can add a traditional layer when birth details are reliable, but they are not a licence to turn a general article into a precise personal forecast. See what D9 can and cannot tell you.
How to use the two Cancer stays#
Treat the dates as a sequence you can compare with actual experience. What was already developing before June? Which opportunities have concrete support? Which promises remain only promises?
For the first stay, the editorial emphasis is on identifying useful avenues for growth. During the Leo interval, use a Leo-transit framework rather than stretching this Cancer reading across the gap. When Jupiter returns, revisiting an unfinished conversation or project may be a helpful symbolic theme, but retrograde motion does not guarantee that a person or opportunity will return.
Keep a record of developments as well as non-events. If a prediction does not match your circumstances, do not force your life into it. Practical decisions still need evidence about the relationship, job, budget or course in front of you.
Choose your ascendant#
Each guide includes a house map, the two houses Jupiter rules, its three aspects, practical interpretations and what changes during the Leo interval and Cancer return.
- Aries ascendant
- Taurus ascendant
- Gemini ascendant
- Cancer ascendant
- Leo ascendant
- Virgo ascendant
- Libra ascendant
- Scorpio ascendant
- Sagittarius ascendant
- Capricorn ascendant
- Aquarius ascendant
- Pisces ascendant
Choose the Ascendant shown in your sidereal birth chart. A reliable birth time matters, especially near a rising-sign boundary.
Common questions#
Does Jupiter stay in Cancer until June 2027?#
Not continuously. It moves into Leo on October 31, 2026, and returns to Cancer on January 25, 2027. The final Cancer exit covered here is June 26, 2027. Dates are in IST.
Is Jupiter retrograde throughout its Cancer transit?#
No. The June–October 2026 stay is direct. The next retrograde begins in Leo on December 13, 2026. Jupiter returns to Cancer while retrograde and turns direct there on April 13, 2027.
Will an exalted Jupiter definitely bring marriage or wealth?#
No. Exaltation is one traditional dignity factor. It does not supply the missing natal placements, planetary periods or personal circumstances needed to assess a particular question.
Why do different websites list different clock times?#
Timezone, ayanamsha and longitude conventions can differ. Our calculation uses the site's existing apparent geocentric tropical longitude minus mean Lahiri ayanamsha convention. We also compared a native Swiss sidereal calculation. The date-level agreement is what we are publishing; the minute-level discrepancy remains unresolved across sources.
Method checked October 13, 2026. Dates describe calculated astronomical events; the readings are traditional astrological interpretations, not scientifically established predictions. The cover is an original AI-assisted symbolic illustration of Brihaspati, not a depiction of Jupiter's physical path.
